Gennaro Santaniello - Dark refreshment – Reclaimed Icons Series

Dark Refreshment is an original oil painting from my Reclaimed Icons series, a body of work exploring the relationship between mass-produced objects, consumption and human experience. The painting depicts a Coca-Cola glass containing the remains of a drink. An instantly recognizable symbol of global consumer culture becomes the subject of an intimate contemporary still life. Unlike the crushed cans and discarded packaging featured in other works from the series, the glass remains intact. Its transformation is more subtle: the partially consumed drink suggests an absent human presence, a moment interrupted, a gesture already completed. In Reclaimed Icons, I explore how ordinary objects acquire individuality through their interaction with people. Even without visible damage, an everyday object can retain the traces of an experience, becoming connected to personal memories, habits and rituals. Through realistic oil painting, Dark Refreshment removes a familiar commercial icon from its advertising context and invites the viewer to reconsider it as an object of contemplation. What was designed for mass consumption becomes a quiet record of an individual moment. Original oil painting on canvas. Dimensions: 30 × 45 cm. Signed by the artist. Certificate of Authenticity included. Carefully packaged and shipped with tracking.
