GDJ - Lodderein box - Silver

The initial stamp GDJ is the master mark of the silversmith. In Dutch silversmithing of that period, many silversmiths from centers such as Schoonhoven or Amsterdam worked with such three-letter monograms. The walls and the lid of this box show detailed reliefs of persons (such as a woman with a basket on the side and a bust/portrait in a medallion on the lid). This type of decoration with human figures or (outdoor) scenes often indicates an 18th-century model (around 1770-1790), made in cities such as Amsterdam.
