Toutes les enchères / Livres, Cartographie & Manuscrits / Gautier / Taine - Honoré de Balzac. Sa Vie et Ses Oeuvres - 1858
Very rare and sought-after first edition of the foundational biography of Honoré de Balzac written by the friend and illustrious intellectual Théophile Gautier, enriched by the important critical analysis of Hippolyte Taine on "La Comédie Humaine". This specific issue represents an emission of extreme bibliographic rarity, scarcely catalogued in public catalogs and almost unavailable on the antique market, with very rare auction passages recorded in recent decades. It should be noted that the work also exists in another contemporaneous variant bearing the mark of Librairie Internationale / H. Dumont. The work offers an intimate and precious glimpse into the life, creative genius, and literary production of the famous master of French realism. Théophile Gautier, Honoré de Balzac: his life & his works. Biography by Théophile Gautier; critical analysis of La Comédie Humaine by H. Taine, Brussels, Meline, Cans et Compagnie, 1858. PP.: 94, 96. COMPLETE text, but without the frontispiece portrait. Copy with pages in overall good/very good condition, with the usual signs of use and time and the natural aging foxing. Elegant modern half-red morocco binding with boards covered in marbled paper, very well preserved. Endpapers present.
