Antique carved wooden kerfsnede coat rack – Richly decorative woodcarving – 5 elegant metal coat hooks – Traditional folk art A beautiful centerpiece where traditional woodcarving and artisanal design come together in a special way! This richly decorated wooden wall coat rack is executed with refined kerfsnede, inspired by traditional Frisian folk art. What immediately stands out is the impressive symmetrical ornamentation that adorns almost the entire front. The central section is formed by a large, beautifully worked geometric rosette, surrounded by fan-shaped patterns, stylized flowers, leaves and graceful branches. The upper edge is finished with a continuous sequence of geometric inlays and foliate motifs. Through the combination of deeper and shallower cuts, a particularly lovely relief emerges, with the warm wood color and dark shading accentuating the woodcarving beautifully. The coat rack is equipped with five decorative metal coat hooks, three of which have a distinctive high, curved loop. All five are also provided with double, outward-curved garment hooks with graceful spherical ends. The finely ornamented mounting plates of the hooks complete the ensemble. Background – Traditional kerfsnede Kerfsnede, also called Frisian wood carving, is an ancient decorative craft technique in which small, precise cuts are used to apply geometric and floral patterns to wood. Characteristically, rosettes, stars, fan motifs and repeating geometric decorations are seen. This form of folk art was traditionally applied to a variety of wooden household objects, where practical functionality went hand in hand with decorative craftsmanship. This coat rack beautifully matches this artisanal tradition with its extensive geometric decoration and central rosette.
