Fraraccio Permesso dalla legge - La Mozzetta – Traditional Neapolitan Knife in exotic wood and Stainless Steel – 18 cm Category Catawiki Collection knives → Italian traditional knives Description Fascinating and refined specimen of “Permesso dalla legge - La Mozzetta,” handcrafted by Fraraccio in the early 2000s, inspired by one of the most characteristic models of the Naples kingdom knife tradition. La Mozzetta represents an important historical witness to southern blade-making. Its distinctive tip-less blade originates from ancient regulations issued in the Kingdom of Naples between the 18th and 19th centuries to limit the offensive use of knives during the frequent brawls and assaults that affected urban areas. The Bourbon authorities progressively imposed the adoption of blades with a blunt or blunted tip, considered more suitable for daily and culinary use and less dangerous as a weapon. From these regulations the typical shape of the Mozzetta was born, which over time became one of the symbols of Neapolitan popular tradition. This specimen stands out for its elegant exotic wood handle. The blade is made of satin-finished 420 stainless steel, a material appreciated for its strength and ease of maintenance. Traditionally used knife during meals, in daily activities, and as a faithful pocket companion of the rural and artisan culture of southern Italy. Produced by Fraraccio, the historic Molisan manufacturer internationally known for the quality of its handcrafted work.
