Frans Van Damme moved for his artistic training successively to the Academies of Dendermonde (among others in 1874-1875), Sint-Niklaas and Antwerp (1877-1879). He lived for a period in Antwerp and from 1881 in Brussels. He was represented in 1887 at the ‘Première Exposition Française’ in Tunis with De Schelde and won a gold medal there.
