Toutes les enchères / Arts Graphiques / Francisco Lauña (XX) - Sculpture

Francisco Lauña: A green bottle dog (perro verde botella) graduated in ceramics from the Higher School of Art and Design of Jerez and Cádiz. Completing his studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Granada. His work addresses the dialogue between the aesthetics of food and its rituals, highlighting its capacity to reinterpret the nature of eating. His works, mostly installation-based, hybrid ceramic sculpture. His exhibition career has taken him to much of the province of Cádiz and to cities such as: Granada, Jaén or Naples (Italy). There, in addition to exhibiting, he has been awarded fellowships in residencies such as: “the Open-Air Museum of Puente de Génaves” of the Jaén Provincial Council and “Mimbre y Sombras” at the Lorca House. Selected for the Talavera Contemporary Ceramic Biennial and first prize in the “Granarte 2025” contest of the Granada Provincial Council. In short, Francisco Lauña comes to bring the world a vision that is more “tasty, playful.” Instagram: francisco_laugna This project is grounded in three key resources: Fajalauza, ham, and a dialogue between cultures. The dialogue between cultures is established through food, eating as an encounter, and the culinary art that is expressed by savoring delicate thin slices of serrano ham, which manifests in a delicate and fragile way in a traditional material such as Fajalauza ceramic. For Andalusians, ham transcends its condition as simple nourishment to become an authentic symbol of coexistence, tradition, and family celebration. It acts as a social cohesion element, around which generations gather to share not only food but stories, affections, and memories. Its appearance at the center of the table usually marks the start of a special occasion. Cut with care, offered with pride, and eaten slowly. Ham evokes hospitality and generosity, qualities deeply rooted in the identity of southern Spain. In many homes, the arrival of a leg of ham is a reason for joy, almost a domestic ritual that strengthens bonds and perpetuates inherited customs. Through illustrations of pomegranates (the city’s symbol), birds, floral arrangements, rosettes, and plant elements in cobalt blue and manganese green. Alluding to the classic Grana”ina tableware, the referenced concepts and the described setting. The project confronts the viewer through impact and visual play, where the ceramic wears ham and the ham wears ceramic. In this way, UMAMI AL-LAWZA unifies continent and content, form and concept. One of the main axes of this research centers on the innovation of the support. A symbolic operation that expands the boundaries of tradition without deviating from it, allowing the aesthetic of Fajalauza to be kept alive from new perspectives and opening paths toward alternative forms of preservation and reinterpretation. This innovation strategy is conceived in a conscious and respectful manner. Each of the pieces that make up the installation directly references the classic patterns of ceramic objects kept in the patrimonial reserve area of the Foundation. These patterns have been carefully adapted and integrated into the design of the bodies, generating tension between the ornamental and the sculptural. This work aims not only to pay homage to tradition but also to act as a vehicle for diffusion, innovation, and protection of a practice that has visually and culturally defined Granada for centuries. Aware of the delicate moment that many traditional crafts face and of the urgent need for concrete actions that ensure their continuity, the artist Francisco Lauña publicly commits to an ethical and economic obligation with the Fajalauza Foundation. If the research wins the competition, the artist agrees, by contract signed with the Foundation, to donate the full prize value to that institution. This donation has not only symbolic value but also represents a real gesture of support for the preservation of the craft, the know-how, and the artisan community historically linked to Fajalauza ceramics. The donation aims to directly contribute to the sustainability of the Fajalauza Foundation, whether in its educational work, archives, conservation, or in the promotion of new lines of research, documentation, or production. In this way, the work transcends its status as an art piece to become also a tool for direct cultural action, activating a network of collaboration between contemporary art and artisan heritage.
