Francisci Rousseti - ΥΣΤΕΡΟΤΟΜΟΤΟΚΙΑ [Hysterotomotokia] - 1588

Hysterotomotokia of Franciscus Rousset, first published in French, now rendered in Latin by Caspar Bauhin, enriched with many and varied histories in an appendix. Added is Joannes Albosius, physician, of Lithopaedii Senonensis, content in utero for the XXIIX years medical text of 1588 on cesarean birth, written by Franciscus Roussetus and translated into Latin by Caspar Bauhin. It contains a detailed technical description and illustrations, including a notable image of a cesarean birth. Bound with a green cover and a brown leather spine bearing the inscription "ROUSSET DE PARTU CAESAREO TOM. I. ET II.". The first book on cesarean birth was originally published in French in 1581. François Rousset’s ideas on cesarean birth met with long-standing strong resistance; he was regarded more or less as an impostor. Study edition, plates present, last 2 pages reconstructed and inserted by a restorer. Binding not contemporary as shown in the photo. The price is basically that of the illustrated plate alone.
