BAROQUE-STYLE MIRROR WITH CARVED WOOD FRAME, GILDING AND LACQUER – 18th CENTURY - 1700 Important antique mirror in Baroque taste, made of finely carved, sculpted and gilded wood, with refined decoration featuring vegetal motifs, volutes, acanthus leaves and opposing scrolls. The piece presents an imposing upper crest with symmetric development, characterized by stylized vegetal elements and a rich openwork design. The composition extends laterally through elaborate foliate volutes, with a plastically dynamic and scenographic cadence. The inner frame is characterized by refined gold-brown polychromy enriched by applied items and gilded ornamental motifs. At the base there is a singular carved mascaron, an element of particular interest, inserted within the complex volute composition. The workmanship, observable especially in the details of the carving and in the less exposed parts, shows marked artisanal quality, with numerous opening sections, deep cross-graining and a decoration conceived to create a strong sculptural and light-dark effect. The back retains construction characteristics and stratifications compatible with an antique piece, as well as traces of interventions and consolidations carried out over time. The gilding shows physiological abrasions, minor losses and chromatic variations that contribute to the legibility of the historic patina. Era: 18th century Field: Italian manufacture, probably central-southern area; attribution to be verified. Technique: carved and sculpted wood, gilding and polychromy. Conservation: good preservation considering its age, with wear, losses and interventions coherent with its conservation history. A piece destined for collectors For the richness of the carving, dimensions, compositional complexity and the presence of the mascaron, it is a particularly decorative object, suitable for historic interiors, representative residences, private collections and high-end furnishings. Object of notable stage presence and of definite interest to the collector of antique Italian furniture.
