From a private collection and of lawful provenance Refined and imposing antique oval wooden frame, finely carved and gilded, dating to the first half of the 18th century (early 1700s), of refined Emilian craftsmanship. The artifact, coming from the private chapel of a historic Emilian noble villa, originally housed the portrait of a high prelate (a bishop). The profile, of great thickness and three-dimensionality, is characterized by a rich radial beadwork alternating with four splendid acanthus foliate cartouche elements arranged symmetrically on the four axes. The outer edge is adorned with a continuous motif of stylized leaves. The gilding, exceptionally bright and glossy, is applied entirely in bole with carved gold leaf on a bole preparation, masterfully burnished to agate. The back bears witness to the typical ancient construction of segmented, hand-fit sectors, covered with a centuries-old protective dark patination. A piece of great class, ready to host a mirror or a painting of high period. The original gold leaf gilding is intact, vivid, with minimal and insignificant signs of time that certify its age. Solid wooden structure and free of active woodworm.
