Frame (2) - Wood - Antique gold leaf

Refined small-period wooden frame with gold leaf work, square with a circular inner light, of Italian manufacture (Central Italy), dating to the first half of the 19th century (Carlo X period). The object stands out for its splendid contrast of geometric and stylistic motifs: the outer structure is entirely open-work carved with foliate scrolls, tendrils, and “cartoccio” (staged as a folded-paper style) motifs. The inner profile, engraved with a burin, is finely embossed with small geometric dots; this technique was used to give depth to miniatures (very fashionable in that specific two-decade span) and to make the gilding stand out under candlelight. The object is presented in excellent period-accurate condition. The gilding is original and shows a fascinating and sincere patina. Very slight and normal signs of time and natural wear on the back are visible, elements that confirm its absolute authenticity and age (refer to the photo gallery for the observable details). Structurally sound and solid.
