Fr. 268. 1896 $5 Silver Certificate. PMG Choice About Uncirculated 58. A truly iconic composition that often stands near the top of a collector's want list or among the pages of publications like Bowers and Sundman's 100 Greatest American Currency Notes. The $5 Silver Certificate issued under the Series of 1896 represents something truly special and reflective of a sense of pride that is simply hard to match or understate through mere words. The full-length vignette entitled Electricity Presenting Light to the World offers a composition ripe with symbolism and pride that evokes symbolic connotations that unmistakably reflect a rising America and its increasingly dominant position in international and scientific affairs. If one were to simply capture the essence of the American identity during the late 1890s and distill that into a printed form, it takes little to reason that the Series of 1896 Silver Certificates would fulfill that intended purpose with the utmost ease compared to even some of its iconic counterparts issued in previous decades. PMG comments "Pinholes." Estimate: $8,000 - $12,000. Click here for certification details from PMG.
