Fossil palm slab - Black interior - Fossilised plant - Palmoxylon sp

Palmoxylon sp. Fossil Palm Wood Slice on Custom Metal Stand – Madagascar A beautiful polished slice of fossil palm wood (Palmoxylon sp.) from Madagascar, elegantly displayed on a custom-made black metal stand designed to enhance both the natural form and the decorative appeal of the specimen. Unlike ordinary fossil wood, fossil palms preserve the distinctive internal anatomy of monocotyledonous trees. Instead of annual growth rings, the slice reveals a dense network of vascular bundles dispersed throughout the tissue, creating a delicate natural texture that reflects the unique structure of prehistoric palms. This specimen displays a striking and elegant colour contrast, with a deep black silicified central zone framed by broad cream and ivory bands. The natural central opening further enhances its sculptural appearance, while subtle variations in tone and texture bear witness to the complex mineralization process that transformed the original palm tissue into stone over millions of years. The finely polished surface beautifully highlights the intricate internal structure, while the naturally textured edges preserve the original external character of the fossil. Together, these elements create a specimen that is equally appreciated for its paleobotanical significance and its contemporary decorative appeal. Mounted on its custom metal display stand, this piece is ready for immediate exhibition in a natural history collection, luxury interior, or cabinet of curiosities. Specimen weight: 730 g Total height with stand: 29.8 cm Stand: Custom black metal display stand included An elegant and highly decorative fossil palm wood slice that perfectly combines prehistoric history, natural artistry, and modern presentation.
