Louis Fontinelle – Sneaking Fox – Art Deco – Crackle-glazed earthenware – circa 1930 Atmospheric Art Deco sculpture of a creeping fox, signed Fontinelle on the pedestal. The animal is depicted in a low, alert stance, with stylized body forms and a gracefully curled tail. The elongated composition is characteristic of the animal sculptures from the Art Deco period. Executed in earthenware with a glossy ivory-colored glaze and a decorative crackle pattern that beautifully emphasizes the sculptural forms. The subject and dimensions correspond to a fox documented as model 249, ‘Renard’, by Louis Fontinelle. No model number was found on this specimen.
