First edition, first printing (per Viking's "First published . . ." statement upon copyright page). [2], i-xxiv, 1-545 pages. Hardcover: H 21cm x L 1.75cm. No dust jacket (i.e. lacking). Green cloth; spine and front board's gilt stamping still reasonably bright. Text block edges foxed. Toning/foxing to front endpapers and to rear pastedown and opposing pocket; past owner's pencil signature at top of front free endpaper; some foxing to interior leaves but overall mostly clean; several rear leaves have shallow creasing/tearing at their top fore-edge corners. Binding is firm. Foldout color map present in rear pocket but with some foxing. Sponsored by the Mississippi Advertising Commission. Foreword by WPA Administrator Harry L. Hopkins. Preface by State Director Eri Douglas and State Editor Gene Holcomb. B/w photographs throughout with images by Willa Johnston, Gene Holcomb, O.N. Pruitt, Earl M. Norman, and W.
