Fabrice Hünd (1961-2021) - Femme color

Fabrice Hund (1971) – Femme Color Oil on hardboard, 73 × 80 cm. Signed. A colorful, expressive composition in which a stylized female figure is at the center. The face is built from contrasting color fields in bright yellow, deep blue, green and warm red tones. The asymmetrical distribution of light and dark gives the visage a pronounced plastically, sculptural effect. The large almond-shaped eyes, red lips and strong black contour lines determine the character of the image. The woman holds a decorative bowl, while on the left a bottle-shaped object is visible. Her elongated fingers, the simplified anatomy and the angular handling of form reinforce the expressive character. The background consists of geometric and curved color fields that enclose the figure and give the composition a rhythmic structure. The painting technique is characterized by broad, visible brushstrokes, solid contours and a pronounced contrast between warm and cool colors. The distortion of the human body and the combination of different viewpoints show stylistic kinship with Expressionism and Cubism. Figurative depiction and decorative abstraction come together in this painting in a characteristic way. Biography of the artist Fabrice Hund (born in 1971 in Utrecht) is a Dutch visual artist who studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. His artistic practice encompasses several disciplines, including painting, photography, installations and objects. In his work, Hund explores the relationship between image, perception and reality. He uses a variety of materials and techniques, in which figurative elements and abstract visual structures can complement each other. In his painting, color contrasts, simplified forms and an expressive construction play an important role. Femme Color showcases this visual language in an emphatically figurative composition, in which the female portrait is combined with decorative elements and a powerful, almost flat color usage. The emphasis on contour, color and form distortion gives the work a recognizable expressive character.
