Toutes les enchères / Ethnographie / Exceptional Late Jurassic Fossil Cycad Leaf - Fossilised plant - Zamites
A striking and beautifully preserved Late Jurassic cycad-like leaf, identified as Zamites feneoni, preserved on its natural lithographic limestone matrix from Saint-Champ, Chatonod, France. The specimen displays a remarkably well-defined frond, with the central rachis and numerous long, narrow, lanceolate leaflets clearly visible. The dark brown-to-black fossilized plant material contrasts strongly with the pale limestone, producing an exceptionally attractive and graphic presentation. Several of the leaflets retain their original elongated shape and sharply pointed apices, while the close-up views reveal abundant fine detail within the preserved organic material. Additional fragmentary plant remains can also be observed elsewhere on the slab, adding further interest to the specimen. Dating to the Kimmeridgian Stage of the Late Jurassic, approximately 155–150 million years ago, this fossil records vegetation from the Jurassic landscapes of what is now France. The specimen is particularly attractive when displayed vertically, where the complete architecture of the frond can be appreciated. SPECIMEN DETAILS - Species: Zamites feneoni - Type: Fossil plant – cycad-like leaf/frond - Age: Late Jurassic – Kimmeridgian - Age: approximately 155–150 million years - Locality: Saint-Champ, Chatonod, France - Matrix: Lithographic limestone - Slab size: approximately 18 × 17 × 2 cm, glued. - Preservation: Natural fossil plant impression with dark fossilized organic material preserved on the original matrix A superb Jurassic palaeobotanical specimen combining scientific interest with strong aesthetic appeal.
