Toutes les enchères / Mobilier, Design & Miroirs / Ewer - Pewter - Maasland

Monumental and heavy 18th-century tin lidded pourer (baluster jug / pouring pitcher) from the Maasland cultural area (Liège/Maastricht/Maaseik region), dating to the mid-18th century (circa 1730–1760). The jug is characterized by an elegant, bulbous form with a profiled base ring, a rounded domed lid with a raised thumb rest, and a sturdy cast handle that is connected to the lid via a distinctive 5-lobed hinge. On the inside of the base there is a clearly struck quality mark: a finely detailed crowned rose (Tudor rose with a stirrup crown and pearl edge), flanked by a star and the initial I (or J) of the pewterer. Specifications: Origin: Maasland / Southern Netherlands / Liège region Dating: 18th century (ca. 1730–1760) Material: Cast tin Marks: Crowned rose with star and master initial (I/J) on the base; old collection/auction label attached to the handle ("5146 MAAST.") Height: approx. 25 cm Weight: 1371 grams Condition: In a beautiful and fair antique state with an authentic patina and light age- and use-related traces commensurate with its venerable age of nearly 300 years (a few light superficial irregularities and casting/polishing marks). The hinge and lid closure function properly. No visible later repairs or restorations. See the detail photos for an accurate personal impression of the condition.
