European Union - Austria. - 500 Euro 2002 - Trichet - Pick 14n

500 Euro : 2002 Issuing bank: European Central Bank, standard banknote, 2002-2014, 500 Euro, paper (cotton fiber) 160 x 82 mm, rectangular, no longer in circulation and cannot be used for payment. Colors: purple Design: Robert Kalina Front: The front shows windows and doorways. They symbolize the European spirit of openness and cooperation. The banknote displays the architectural style of the period after the 1930s in European history, but it does not depict actual existing monuments or bridges. Back: The bridges on the back of the Europa banknotes symbolize communication between the people of Europe and between Europe and the rest of the world. The back also features a map of Europe and the stars of the European flag. Watermark: an image and the value of the banknote Signature: on the front, Jean-Claude Trichet, President of the European Central Bank This is a €500 banknote from the first euro series, the series that entered into circulation with the introduction of the euro in 2002. The distinctive N in the serial number: For the first series, the letter before the serial number indicates which national central bank issued the banknote. N = Austria. This means that this banknote has an Austrian issue code. It does not necessarily mean it was physically printed in Austria. The ECB decided on 4 May 2016 to stop the production and issue of the €500 banknote. The main reason was concern that the high denomination could facilitate illicit activities. The last €500 banknotes were issued in April 2019; since 27 April 2019 they are no longer issued. A €500 banknote has not become worthless. Existing €500 banknotes from the first series remain legal tender and retain their nominal value of €500; they can be exchanged at national central banks of the Eurosystem without a time limit. A shop, bank or other business is not, in any case, required to accept a €500 banknote; that is separate from the fact that the banknote remains legal tender. Authenticity features A genuine first-series €500 contains quite a few security features. 1. Watermark Hold the banknote against the light. You should see a watermark in which, among other things, the 500 and the architectural motif are visible. 2. Security thread A dark embedded thread is in the paper. When held up to the light, it becomes clearly visible. 3. Windowed security thread (see-through register) On the front and back, partial shapes align with the light to form the exact 500 symbol when viewed together. 4. Raised print Certain parts of the front feel thicker/rougher due to intaglio printing. For example, the Bundesbank cites the tactile print at the copyright rule. 5. Microprint Extremely small letters appear at various places. In a genuine print, when magnified they are sharp, not just a blurry line. 6. UV reaction Under ultraviolet light, the paper and certain elements react with different colors. For the first-series €500, among others: the EU flag, stars, certain circles, embedded fibers. The paper base itself should not fluoresce as a bright white sheet. 7. Hologram On the front right is the holographic element. Tilting the banknote changes the image. 8. Color-changing ink The large denomination numeral on the back is printed with special optically variable ink. When tilted, the color changes.
