Ethiopian crystal opal – exceptional harlequin color play with intense red

This extraordinary crystal opal natural piece from Ethiopia impresses with an unusually intense and very broad play-of-color, visibly striking on both faces in an impressive way. The translucent to partly transparent opal body has a warm, lightly honey-yellow to greenish-gray base color and is threaded by a spectacular color fire. Particularly dominant are bright greens, reds, oranges, blues, and turquoise tones, which move across the surface in numerous small, clearly delineated color flashes. The intense red and orange appear especially fiery and, together with the strong green, form an unusually strong contrast, while blue and turquoise color reflections give the stone additional depth. Characteristic is also the preserved natural matrix or host rock, which partly encloses the opal and thereby preserves the original character of the find. The polished areas show remarkable depth and a strong luster, making the color play seem to glow from within the opal itself. Depending on lighting and viewing angle, the appearance changes noticeably: on one side, large green-orange and red fire zones dominate, while another view reveals a particularly dense mosaic of red, green, and blue color specks. It is precisely this changing color distribution that makes the piece especially interesting and ensures that from different vantage points it reveals new details again and again. The natural, irregular form, the partially preserved matrix, and the intense color impact combine to form a very characterful collectible with a highly decorative aura. Notably, the high color variety within a single stone is striking: vivid neon green, electric blue, bright turquoise, intense fiery red, orange, and golden-yellow reflections appear together and create an exceptionally lively color play. This is a fascinating Ethiopian crystal opal natural piece that impresses both with its natural formation history and its optical effect, and is particularly interesting for collectors who value extraordinary opals with strong multicolored fire and preserved natural matrix.
