Escuela Postimpresionista Europea (XX) - Rosas

Title: Roses ㅤ School: Catalan School (20th century) ㅤ Style: Floral post-impressionism ㅤ Technique: Oil on canvas. ㅤ Condition: Apparent good overall condition, with slight signs of age and wear on the painted surface and on the frame. ㅤ Circle and artistic influence: The work is stylistically related to the Catalan post-impressionist tradition and to the renewal of the floral still life during the 20th century. There are affinities with the chromatic freedom and the expressive brushwork of the Catalan painting developed in the artistic milieu of Joaquim Mir and Francesc Gimeno, without implying a direct attribution to those artists. ㅤ The composition features an exuberant bouquet of roses of different varieties and shades, among which intense reds, soft pinks, yellows and creams predominate. The flowers are arranged in a dark vase, placed on a brown-toned surface. ㅤ Some roses and petals rest on the table, adding spontaneity and naturalness to the whole. The neutral and somber background allows the rich chromaticity of the flowers to stand out, creating an interesting contrast between the luminosity of the petals and the depth of the shadows. ㅤ The artist employs broad, loose, and impasto brushwork, with special attention to the volume and texture of the roses. The irregular distribution of the bouquet gives it movement and an expressive character that goes beyond the strictly academic representation of the traditional still life. ㅤ The work is presented framed with a wooden molding in gold and brown tones, of a classic design and stepped profile, which complements the warm tones of the painting. ㅤ Observations: Decorative floral still life, signed in the lower right corner. Notable for the chromatic richness of the roses and its expressive brushwork. ㅤ The work may incur damage during transport even with proper packaging. In that case, we will require photographs of the damages to proceed with compensation.
