Escondido, California. $10 1902 Plain Back. Fr. 625. Escondido NB.

A Great Rarity from Southern California Escondido, California. $10 1902 Plain Back. Fr. 625. Escondido NB. Charter #8040. PCGS Currency Very Fine 20 PPQ. Issued before 1924 on account of the overprinted "P" regional indicator seen alongside the charter numbers, this evenly circulated $10 Plain Back is nonetheless a great rarity from Southern California. Issued by the Escondido National Bank (Charter# 8040) which had organized in 1906, bidders have here a veritable relic that echoes the Escondido of old which was an agricultural community rather than the bustling suburb of 2026 which does still retain some scattered agricultural concerns. Now this specific institution fell to liquidation 100 years ago at the hands of the Southern Trust & Commerce Bank of San Diego which undoubtedly complicated the survival of additional notes on this institution. Today only six pieces are recorded by the National Bank Note Census and those survivors are infrequently traded and largely well-circulated in technical terms. By contrast, this specific example is exceedingly original and boasts exquisite signatures attributable to Cashier J.J. Rutherford and President A.W. Wohlford while the paper itself echoes the very day this note circulated for the last time likely during the 1920s making this a truly important opportunity for the collector looking to build what can be considered the "definitive" collection of California Nationals. Noted for "Premium Paper Quality" by PCGS Currency. Estimate: $3,000 - $5,000.

Estimation:€1,604.71
