Emmanuelle Pellet - On va faire un carton avec sa nuisette biodégradable

Emmanuelle Pellet - We're going to make a splash with her biodegradable negligee Acrylic painting on cardboard H: 23 cm L: 23 cm Unique piece, hand-painted, signed and numbered The work was published in Luxembourg Féminin magazine, for which the artist worked for several years. Two copies of the illustration page and the magazine cover are enclosed with the shipment. About the work: The setting could come from any curator’s committee: a fuchsia wall, a bright orange table, and in the background a vintage lingerie poster that immediately establishes the territory, highly codified, of fashion and glamorous underthings. This is the frame the artist playfully sabotages, with the jubilation of a caricaturist who knows well the conventions of the milieu she is depicting. For here is the new product pitch: no longer lace, but a negligee cut from a root rhizome of ginger, hanging fibrous roots, lavishly presented by a bald product manager with a carnivorous smile and bulging eyes—an bulbous, grotesque silhouette that would not have looked out of place in a panel by Hieronymus Bosch. Facing him, two saleswomen in porcelain dolls, with wide eyes and pouty mouths, take in the pitch with the expression of someone who has seen too many failed collections pass by: one points the object with an accusatory finger, the other collapses, head in hands, in a gesture of almost comic exhaustion. The title alone carries all the spice of the scene. “Make a splash,” in the product manager’s mouth, promises commercial triumph. But in the eyes of the two saleswomen, it already means something else: the box, very real this time, into which the item will be repackaged to return to the stylist. The artist never resolves the two meanings—it's this ambiguity, suspended between the seller's enthusiasm and the audience's silent skepticism, that makes the painting so funny. About the artist: Art historian by training, Emmanuelle Pellet studied at the École du Louvre and then at the Sorbonne, before being admitted to the Agrégation of Visual Arts (3rd rank). After several years of teaching, she joined the Louvre Museum as head of educational action. Her career today feeds a personal body of work where mastery of painting dialogues with a deep culture of images and the history of art. Her creations have been exhibited in galleries in Paris, London, Singapore and Mauritius, and have been the subject of numerous publications. They are now included in private collections in Europe, North America, Asia and the Indian Ocean.
