Emile Galle Art Nouveau Wheel Cut Glass Underwater Marine Scene Vase

Executed in multilayered cameo glass, the vase features a deep red overlay that has been wheel-cut and carved to reveal a marine scene depicting a floating jellyfish surrounded by tendrils and seaweed. The layered construction and carved decoration create variations in depth and relief across the surface. Galle's mark appears on the side of the vase. Emile Galle was a French glassmaker and a leading figure of the Art Nouveau movement in Nancy.
