Grand in-8 (25.3×16 cm), 417 pp. Original edition, the number 1 of 20 copies on velin paper from the Arches paper mill, reserved for the XX bibliophiles, signed by the author under the justification. Second and last complete novel by the author. Only a third novel, unfinished, was published after his death. Emile Clermont (1880-1916) was certainly one of the most promising writers of his generation. Montherlant, who did not have easy criticism, held him in high esteem. The XX were a Parisian society of bibliophiles. In sheets, double cover (the second being that of the XX), case with XX’s emblem, slipcase. Small defects in the case, slipcase weakened at the folds. Superb work, of great rarity.
