Elio Lazzari (1942) - Canal Grande

Elio Lazzari (Venice, 1942) is one of the most renowned contemporary Venetian painters, appreciated for his evocative views of the lagoon and everyday Venetian life. Described by critics as “one of the last great Venetian vedutisti,” he has exhibited in important Italian and international venues, including New York, Washington, and Luxembourg. His works are present in numerous private collections and represent an authentic testimony of the Venetian painting tradition. Suggestive Venetian view by master Elio Lazzari, an artist considered by critics to be one of the last great interpreters of the Venetian veduta tradition. The work depicts the Grand Canal wrapped in a delicate luminous atmosphere, where the water becomes the true protagonist of the composition, reflecting architectures, boats, and soft chromatic nuances. With an essential yet highly evocative painting, Lazzari manages to capture the most authentic soul of Venice. The forms seem to emerge from the light and the lagoon fog, creating an effect of great poetic depth and giving the scene a suspended and timeless character. The work is executed with mixed technique: acrylic and tempera on canvas and is titled "Canal Grande," as reported on the back by the artist. The composition is perfectly representative of Lazzari’s most appreciated production, famous for his Venetian views present in private collections in Italy and abroad.
