The years around 1900 were an exciting era in the field of arts and crafts. The new forms of Art Nouveau enriched the designs of goldsmiths' workshops with fresh, decorative elements. A number of centers quickly emerged in Europe during these years, each of which went their own way with this new style. British goldsmiths also eagerly embraced these trends. The Edwardian era is characterized by jewellery designs that were lighter and airier than the creations of the Victorians - and this is a piece from these years. This wonderfully light and airy necklace is openworked and abstractly floral. A faceted amethyst of deep purple color is set in golden prongs, accompanied by small natural pearls and a pearl shell as a suspension. This creates beautiful light reflections with every movement of the piece. We discovered the antique necklace in London. A beautiful companion from Edwardian days.
