Elegant Art Nouveau Necklace with Diamonds in Platinum, c. 1900 and later

In this necklace, sparkling diamonds shimmer in competition with one another, like dewdrops in a spiderweb. Delicate platinum bars hold the diamonds in their settings, while elegant arches frame the arrangement all around; a larger drop featuring two additional diamonds is suspended from the design in a movable manner. The necklace is crafted from platinum on gold and set with approximately 0.75 ct of antique diamonds. The stones, featuring antique cuts, are set in bezels or inserted into small, rectangular panels that are clamped between the platinum bars. Five stones are also held in prong settings. The variety of settings, the different cuts of the diamonds, and the fact that the diamonds are set at varying levels within the pendant create a subtly nuanced play of light, with reflections that are at times more intense and at other times somewhat more subdued. The pendant, with its characteristic whip-stroke lines in the frame, was created c. 1900 or shortly after the turn of the century. The diamonds in prong settings were apparently added to the necklace at a later date. The chain was replaced in our workshop.
