Elegant Art Deco Brooch With Diamonds Set in Platinum, France ca. 1925

Rod brooches, brooches, pins - all these are names for a form of jewellery that enjoyed great popularity in the first decades of the 20th century. They were worn in many ways, and especially creative in the Art Deco period. For example, the German fashion journal "Die Dame" let it be known in its fashion notes of 1925 that people now wore "rather voluminous pins, which always look best at the front of the waist as a clasp or finish to an insert." But they could also be seen as the finial of a blouse collar, or even pinned over garçonnes ties. The brooch we have here is of medium size, making it particularly versatile. It is made of platinum so that it shines white according to the fashion of the time. Starting from one large old European cut diamond in the center of the design, the precious metal describes several interlocking rectangles. Every opportunity is taken to add diamonds to the surface of the frames. Thus, a total of about three carats of diamonds are used. A firework of light is the result. The brooch is a typical example of a jewel from the period of Art Deco. Its hallmarks prove that it was created in France. Since the turbulent 1920s, it has been preserved as if not a day has passed since then.
