Swedish wall clock G. A. Jansson – Stockholm – Rococo style – Carved and gilded wood – 20th century Elegant and distinctive wall clock of Swedish origin, with dial signed G. A. Jansson – Stockholm, characterized by a rich structure in carved and gilded wood, made according to the decorative canons of the Rococo style. The case features elaborate floral decorations, carved roses, scrolls and ornamental motifs, with a small mirror inset in the lower part. The metal dial, with Arabic numerals and refined pierced hands, bears the signature G. A. Jansson and the geographical indication Stockholm. Particularly interesting is the internal movement, presumably electromechanical, equipped with a metal cylinder marked 4 V, likely referring to a low-voltage electrical power system. The signature could refer to a watchmaker or retailer active in Stockholm. It has not been possible to identify the producer of the movement with certainty. Specifications * Type: wall clock * Country of origin: Sweden * Signature: G. A. Jansson – Stockholm * Suspected period: 20th century, dating to be confirmed * Style: Rococo * Material: carved and gilded wood * Dial: metal with Arabic numerals * Movement: presumably electromechanical, with component marked 4 V * Height: 54 cm * Width: 35 cm * Weight: 2,100 grams Condition report The clock presents in decent overall cosmetic conditions, with signs of age consistent with its age. The gilding retains much of its brightness, though with small abrasions and imperfections. The dial shows widespread surface alterations and oxidations. The lower mirror shows deterioration of the silvering. The wooden decorations appear overall well preserved. Operation not verified. The movement is present, but an attempt to function it has not been possible. A separate pendulum is not present. The clock is therefore sold in its current state, as a collectible item or potentially for servicing. An interesting example of Swedish decorative clockmaking, particularly suitable for collectors, antique enthusiasts and classic interiors. The photographs are an integral part of the description and document the actual condition of the object.
