EGYPTIAN LIMESTONE FUNERARY WALL RELIEF DEPICTING A MALE FIGURE IN

LOld Kingdom, Ca. 2600 - 2200 BC. An Egyptian limestone funerary wall relief fragment, carved in shallow sunk relief and depicting the upper body of a male figure facing left. The figure is portrayed with a closely cropped hairstyle, a finely outlined almond-shaped eye, a prominent nose, full lips and a carefully modelled ear. His neck and shoulders retain traces of reddish-brown pigment, suggesting the original polychrome decoration. Above the figure are two horizontal registers of incised hieroglyphic inscriptions, separated by deeply carved dividing lines and featuring recognisable signs including birds and an eye. The upper section preserves the remains of an additional inscription, while the irregular edges and partially preserved architectural projection indicate its fragmentary condition. The limestone surface displays extensive age-related wear, abrasions, mineral deposits and localised losses, particularly around the inscriptions and outer edges.
