EGYPTIAN BRONZE AND STONE DAGGER WITH OPENWORK POMMEL

Middle Kingdom, ca. 2055 - 1790 BC. A bronze dagger with a broad, tapering blade, with a deep central channel extending for approximately two-thirds of its length and continuing towards the point as a pronounced rib. The blade is joined to a separately cast hilt with a crescentic guard and flat grip, secured by rivets. The grip terminates in a circular bronze pommel frame set with an insert of stone. Size: 385mm x 80mm; Weight: 495g Provenance: From a private London collection; Peter Schnell collection, Switzerland, acquired in Swiss art gallery in 1970s. later with Hans Blaser, Switzerland, 1990s.
