Toutes les enchères / Autres / École européenne (XX) - La jeune fille aux fleurs
Elegant oil on canvas belonging to the European school of the 20th century, depicting a young woman dressed in costumes with a marked folkloric character, delicately holding a small bouquet of flowers. The composition centers on the female figure, shown half-length and slightly turned. Notable is the treatment of the face, with idealized features and serene expression, as well as the soft illumination that models the flesh and makes the figure emerge against a predominantly dark background. The young woman is adorned with large hoop earrings and red flowers in her hair, elements that, together with the color of the dress and the shawl, lend the scene a certain Mediterranean and romantic character. The painter also introduces an abundant floral presence both between the protagonist’s hands and in the lower part of the composition, enriching chromatically a palette dominated by deep tones. It is interesting to note the contrast between the relatively precise and delicate treatment of the face and a considerably freer and gesture-filled brushwork in the clothing, flowers, and secondary elements. The yellows, reds, greens, and blues are applied with visible brushstrokes, imparting movement and luminosity to the composition. The work is situated within the European tradition of figurative and genre painting, heir to the Romantic and Orientalist models of the 19th century, which continued to have a significant presence in salon and genre painting during the early decades of the 20th century. In the lower left corner a signature of difficult reading is visible, rendered in reddish tones. The painting is presented with a substantial gilded frame of historicist taste, richly ornamented, which markedly enhances its decorative presence. Condition report: The work shows signs of age and use compatible with its chronology. It is recommended to carefully examine the photographs, which are an integral part of the description and allow assessment of its state of conservation. Notes: The frame shown in the photographs is offered with the work as a gift to the buyer, and is therefore not considered an integral part of the lot nor assigned commercial value. Due to its ornamental character and age, it may present faults, knocks, restorations, or defects that will not be grounds for complaint. For shipments outside the European Union, the buyer should note that additional costs may arise from taxes, duties, or customs procedures, which will be the sole responsibility of the recipient.
