Toutes les enchères / Autres / École du Cusco (XVIII) - Portrait du Sapa Inca Pachacutec
- Oil on canvas. Original canvas. Rarissima Incan royal effigy. - This iconographic representation of Pachacútec Inca Yupanqui, frequently integrated in the genealogical series of the Inca lineage of the Cusqueña school, constitutes a complex exercise in political legitimization and visual syncretism. The ninth ruler of the Tahuantinsuyo is depicted with hieratic severity, holding in his right hand the suntur paucar — staff or insignia of command — as the organizing axis of the Andean cosmos and a symbol of his unappealable authority. On his forehead, the crimson mascapaicha is enhanced by the paucar or plume of exotic birds, an attribute exclusive to the dignity of the Sapa Inca. The composition underlines his character of huatacc, or unifier, by placing under his feet the unanchas (standards and emblems) toppled from the subjugated ethnic groups during his military expansion, such as the chancas or the collas. This pictorial device, which employs hierarchical perspective and meticulous detailing in the attire — including the ornamental uncu and the tupayauri — seeks to establish a dynastic continuity that links pre-Hispanic majesty with the succession of the monarchs of the House of Austria, integrating the Quechua sovereign into the concert of the universal history of European origin. - Dimensions of the framed image: 56 x 78 cm / 64 x 85.5 cm with exclusive antique frame to measure. The digital Certificate of Guarantee includes full details about the piece, such as the author, creation date, technique used, and dimensions. The digital Certificate of Guarantee will be issued upon the client's request, providing an official reference for the piece acquired. This document will be sent in digital format and will be signed by an art historian of our gallery, ensuring its validity and backing.
