The Threshold of a Gaze Artist: Original work by artist E. In The Threshold of a Gaze, Eve Lezcano builds an image where the face emerges from a structure of vertical planes and interwoven surfaces. One eye delimited by pink tones and lips of intense red focus attention in the center of the composition. In the upper right area, a second facial configuration introduces a presence that can be read as interlocutor, doubling, or echo of the main figure. The work explores the ability of a few features to summon an identity. The oval, the profile line, and the opening of the eye appear distributed among geometric fields that interrupt anatomical continuity. This fragmentation allows each face to participate in several spatial relations: at times it approaches the viewer and, at other times, reintegrates into the surface. The palette of warm whites, pinks, and subdued blues establishes a contained luminosity, sustained by broad black areas. Ochre accents and the red arch on the right side introduce tension and guide the visual path. Over this organization, brush marks provide variations in density and texture, making perceptible the process of building the image. The encounter between the presences remains open. Its closeness coexists with bands and cuts that prevent unambiguously reconciling them into a single scene. The artist thus places the portrait at a threshold of recognition: a space where looking implies reconstructing connections, accepting discontinuities, and discovering how a presence can affirm itself through its fragments.
