E. García - Lucia en Mallorca XL

"Lucia en Mallorca" is a 100 × 70 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. The work presents a young woman seated beneath a lush lemon tree, protected by a large yellow hat that becomes one of the main visual focal points of the composition. Her relaxed, contemplative attitude conveys the calm of a Mediterranean afternoon. The figure occupies the center of the scene, dressed in a wide, dark blue garment that contrasts with the luminous yellows of the hat and the lemons. Above her, the large green leaves form a vegetal canopy that envelops the portrait and adds a marked sense of freshness and exuberance. The composition is built with flat colors, black outlines, and simplified shapes. The cobalt blue of the dress, the bright yellow, the emerald and turquoise greens, together with the pinks and oranges of the chair, create a Mediterranean palette of great intensity. The white stone of the background also introduces a reference to Mallorca’s traditional architecture and chromatically balances the whole. The work connects with the language of fauvism through its chromatic freedom and its desire to use color as an expressive element. Echoes of Henri Matisse also appear in the ornamental treatment of the vegetation, the simplification of the figure, and the integration between portrait, furniture, and nature. In "Lucia en Mallorca", Ernest García builds an image associated with the Mediterranean summer, light, and rest. The protagonist’s tranquil gaze, the wide straw hat, and the lemons hanging above her turn a everyday scene into a portrait full of vitality and character. "Lucia en Mallorca" will be particularly appealing to collectors interested in contemporary figurative painting, female portrait, Fauvism, Mediterranean scenes, Mallorca, gardens, lemon trees, and intensely colored compositions.
