Alto Sax E. Beaugnier & Cie Mantes Paris 1930s – French Vintage – Case Description RARE FRENCH ALTO SAXOPHONE E. BEAUGNIER & CIE – MANTES NEAR PARIS I am selling an important and distinctive alto saxophone by E. Beaugnier & Cie, a historic French instrument manufacturer based in Mantes, near Paris. The instrument exhibits the characteristics and engravings typical of Beaugnier production from the first half of the 20th century. PRESENT ENGRAVINGS On the body the following markings are clearly visible: “Anciens Établissements R. Siour & E. Beaugnier” “Fabrication Artistique” “E. Beaugnier & Cie – Mantes près Paris” The EB mark is also present. Interestingly, there is also an engraving referring to the commercial representation in Barcelona, a detail documenting the international destination of the instrument. CHARACTERISTICS * Alto saxophone * E. Beaugnier & Cie * French production * Mantes, near Paris * Silver-plated with brass/burnished bell * Vintage mechanicals * Original hard case with red lining * Mouthpiece included, as shown in the photographs * Shows normal patina and signs of age consistent with its era There is no readable/visible serial number on the instrument. The construction and mechanical characteristics are compatible with Beaugnier specimens documented from the early 1930s, but I am selling the instrument without assigning an exact date in the absence of a serial number, as hand-made production with limited numbers or for specific music houses was common at the time, as in this case. CONDITION Vintage instrument kept in the state visible in the photographs. No recent professional testing has been performed, therefore I do not guarantee perfect pad seal or full mechanical functionality. It shows inevitable signs, oxidation and patina due to age. I recommend treating it as a vintage instrument to be checked/revised by a specialized technician. The case also shows signs of wear, but it is particularly interesting because it is contemporaneous/original and included in the sale. IMPORTANT It is sold exactly as photographed, complete with case and accessories visible in the images. The photographs are an integral part of the description.
