DRIOTON (Étienne) & DU BOURGUET (Pierre). The Pharaohs C - Lot 88

DRIOTON (Étienne) & DU BOURGUET (Pierre). The Pharaohs Conquer Art Paris, circa 1961. A reference work devoted to the history of Pharaonic Egyptian art, written by two eminent specialists in French Egyptology: Étienne Drioton (1889–1961), Director General of the Egyptian Antiquities Service, and Pierre du Bourguet (1897–1983), curator and art historian. Through extensive iconography and a clear synthesis of the most recent archaeological discoveries at the time, the authors trace the evolution of Egyptian artistic forms from the Old Kingdom to the Late Period. Sculpture, architecture, mural painting, funerary arts, and religious objects are examined within their historical and religious contexts. The book is one of the major French overviews of Pharaonic aesthetics from the mid-20th century and remains of great documentary value today. A substantial in-4 volume bound in the publisher’s full cloth. Numerous photographic reproductions in the text.
