(◊) DENMARK. Nationalbanken i Kiobenhavn. 5 Rigsbankdaler, 1819. P-A54. Sieg 71. PMG Very Good 10 Net. Large Tears, Rust. A rather unassuming note that still represents an important transition in the issuance of bank notes in Denmark. In August of 1818, the National Bank of Denmark, the Nationalbanken, was established, which took over the note-issuing privileges of the earlier Rigsbanken. The example offered in the present lot is from the very first issue of the bank, authorized in July of 1819. This example, which is in heavily used condition but with most of the printed elements still visible, is one of just four notes of this type present in the PMG population report at the time of cataloging. PMG Comments "Large Tears, Rust." Provenance: From the Nordjysk Collection. (◊) This lot has been consigned from the European Union and will be shipped or picked up from our Denmark office once the auction concludes. Item is subject to full VAT for non-VAT registered entities or individuals who take delivery of lots within EU countries. For buyers taking possession in Denmark, the lot is subject to margin scheme taxation (in Danish “brugtmoms”). All lots shipped to countries outside of the E.U. will be billed an additional one-half percent (1/2%) for insurance (minimum of €10). For any lots delivered outside of Denmark the declaration value shall be the item’(s) hammer price plus its buyer’s premium. Buyer shall be responsible for paying all applicable taxes, duties, and customs charges for all lots delivered outside Denmark. Please see Terms and Conditions.
