Antique three-footed candle snuffer – silvered (or silver), with gadroon edge and rosette Empire/Regency style, 19th century France, the Low Countries, or England, circa 1800-1860 Fine antique candle snuffer with hinged, scissor-like arms and two round finger rings. The snuffer stands on three globular feet, so it can stand upright on a table or tray. The rectangular catching box is decorated with wavy gadroon borders. On the hinge plate is a stamped rosette with a radiating pattern, and at the tip a palmette leaf in relief. Inside workings and the hinge plate bear several small marks (assay and/or master stamps) Signs of use, patina and light oxidation, small spots on the box, wear to the silvering around the hinge. Hinge and rings intact. Dimensions: approx. 4 cm H approx. 5.5 cm W approx. 16.3 cm L Ships well packed and insured.
