David Roberts (1796–1864) - The Chapel of St

A richly detailed Holy Land chapel interior David Roberts, combining sacred architecture, luminous colour and the atmosphere of nineteenth-century travel. The Chapel of St. Saba depicts worshippers gathered before an elaborate iconostasis, surrounded by painted saints, an imposing crucifix and ornate liturgical furnishings. Warm gold, crimson and muted blue accents bring depth to the scene, while the figures give a striking sense of scale and ceremony. An evocative subject for a study, library or collection of historic religious art. Coloured lithograph David Roberts (1796–1864), bearing his printed facsimile signature.
