Divine Comedy Palatino 313 - Pal. 313 Florence, National Central Library Copy number: 5 14th century 236 pages Application of gold leaf by hand Parchment treated by hand Binding crafted by hand Leather flower with natural tanning Hand stitching Inlaid on ancient paper Considered the oldest illuminated Divine Comedy known, the Palatino 313 codex contains 37 precious miniatures attributed to the workshop of Pacino di Buonaguida, with a style reflecting a preeminence of Giottesque taste in the illustration of the poem. According to historical sources, Dante would have known Giotto in Padua during the execution of the frescoes in the Scrovegni Chapel, likely influencing this iconography. The manuscript includes a large portion of Jacopo Alighieri's commentary, son of Dante, identifiable by the sigla “Jac” in the marginal notes, though often corrupted or altered. Jacopo was a commentator of the first cantica and a point of reference for understanding the text in Florence at the time. Written in elegant littera textualis, the codex presents a history of ownership that includes the Florentine scholar Piero Del Nero, the Guadagni family and finally Gaetano Poggiali, who used it for his 1807 edition of the Divine Comedy. Complete with case and commentary Edito by Imago - La nobiltà del facsimile
