Toutes les enchères / Ethnographie / Crowned Buddha Maravijaya, Shan State art, 19th century

Descriptio Lacquered and gilded wood. Sculpture of a seated Buddha Maravijaya, depicted in the symbolic pose of victory over Mara, crowned with an imposing tiara of finely crafted fins that reinforces his majestic character. The body adopts a stable and balanced composition, conveying a strong spiritual presence. The lacquered and gilded surfaces present subtle contrasts between luminous areas and areas darkened by the passage of time, highlighting the volumes of the face, arms, and torso. The modeling of the face, with its soft features and concentrated expression, conveys inner serenity and spiritual authority. The work belongs to the artistic tradition of the Shan State Kingdom, characterized by the formal elegance and decorative refinement of its Buddhist imagery.
