Toutes les enchères / Argenterie & Orfèvrerie / Coryse salome - Perfume bottle - Monumental Art Deco...

Here is an exceptional monumental tabletop perfume bottle, standing 16 cm tall and weighing about 320 g, signed on the base by the prestigious Parisian brand Coryse Salomé and dating from the 1930s. It is not merely a small bottle, but a true hybrid masterpiece that blends the avant-garde design of high French perfume with the legendary craftsmanship of East Asian silversmiths. The bottle is complete with its original 900 solid silver cap weighing 20 g, a key detail that preserves its integrity and maximum collectible value. The Secret of Craftsmanship: The Silver RouteThis object tells a fascinating industrial and artistic adventure born in the heart of the colonial period. In the 1930s, to break into the ultra-luxury market, Parisian perfumeries began a unique collaboration with the territories of French Indochina, particularly in the areas of present-day Cambodia and Vietnam. The manufacturing process was extraordinary: Paris Crystal: The heavy glass body was fused in a mold in France, designed with clean lines and sharp edges typical of European Art Deco. The Journey East: The nude bottles were shipped by sea to the overseas goldsmith laboratories. The Custom Cage: There, local master silversmiths hand-shaped a protective silver “cage” in 900-grade silver directly onto the glass profile. The metal was pierced and chased with micro-floral scrolls and tendrils inspired by Khmer sacred art, framed by mirror-image arches. The Return to France: Once the coating was completed, the bottle returned to Paris to be filled with the precious essences and sold in the Place de l’Opéra boutiques at astronomic prices, intended for the dressing tables of high society and the nobility. Curiosity and Brand History: Between Scandals and Beauty SecretsBorn from a business spark (1929): The house arose from the union of two beauty geniuses. On one side Coryse Parfums, founded in 1919 by the celebrated chemist and “nose” Maurice Blanchet; on the other Salomé, a luxurious Parisian boutique famous throughout Europe for a unique service: it sold scented powders by weight, weighing them out in front of clients on precision scales. Their merger created a luxury empire. The secret war with Chanel No. 5: In 1932, Coryse Salomé launched into the market its emblematic fragrance, Opéra. This perfume is a legend among collectors: Blanchet formulated it using a massive aldehyde, jasmine, and ylang-ylang accord, designed specifically to challenge and surpass the famous Chanel No. 5 in sales. Owning an exceptional bottle like this meant flaunting the rival most sophisticated to Coco Chanel’s perfume. The invention of “Luxury Corners”: Coryse Salomé was among the first brands in the world to understand the importance of visual marketing. They invented the concept of “exclusive concession”: their products, especially the monumental silver-plated bottles, could not be sold in normal shops, but only in reserved corners within the world’s most luxurious grand hotels or in the salons of transatlantic cruise ships. The Secrets of Glass: If you turn the bottle over, besides the inscription CORYSE SALOMÉ - Made in France etched on the glass, you notice a small geometric emblem. It is the mark of the art glassmaker, most likely the historic Pochet et du Courval, the same excellence manufacturer that produced the glass for personal perfumes of the French imperial court. Technical Specifications and Condition Dimensions: Height 16 cm | Width 9 cm Weight: Total about 320 g | Cap alone in silver: 20 g Material: French artistic glass and 900/1000 solid silver (tested) Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The glass is exceptionally clear, free of chips, cracks or dull calcareous residues inside. The silver cage is solid, with all microscopic welds in the lattice intact. The piece retains its precious original dark patina due to natural time oxidation. It can be easily polished if you prefer a mirror finish. The original cap fits perfectly into the ground-glazed neck. A unique investment opportunity to enrich a collection of vintage high-end perfumery, vanity objets d’art deco silverware or Art Deco silverware.
