Authentic men's wristwatch from the renowned Swiss watch house Cortébert, dating from the period of World War II (ca. 1942). This model possesses the characteristic aesthetics of a military "field watch" from that era. The case is made from the then-innovative Acier Staybrite (high-quality stainless steel) and the dial features Arabic numerals with a subdial for the small seconds at the 6 o'clock position. Cortébert is historically known for its high-quality timepieces and was during this period also an official supplier of watch components to Rolex. On the inside sits an original mechanical Cortébert Caliber 581 manual-wind movement, which, visually, is in a clean and neat condition without rust. An important detail for collectors is the presence of matching numbers: the serial number on the inside of the case back (99215) exactly corresponds with the case stamp (215) at the band attachment. The watch is fitted with an authentic, worn brown leather strap that matches the historical appearance of the piece. The watch remains in original vintage condition with clear signs of wear on the crystal and the case, appropriate for its age of over 80 years. Since it is a field watch from World War II, it will have seen its share of action. After winding, the movement starts and the watch runs. The operation has been checked only broadly; accuracy, power reserve, and the technical condition of the movement have not been extensively tested. The watch is therefore offered in its current, unserviced state. For daily use or if optimal performance is desired, we recommend having the watch checked and possibly serviced by a skilled watchmaker.
