Colourful Vintage Brooch with Rubies, Emeralds and Diamonds in Gold, c. 1960

Flower baskets have long been known as brooches: As early as the 18th century, Rococo court ladies adorned themselves with corsage ornaments in flower shapes, set with precious stones or sparkling jewellery. The Victorian era, the Belle Époque and Art Deco also adapted floral arrangements to the prevailing aesthetic. It is therefore not surprising to find the old theme in this brooch in the style of the years around 1960. The brooch is in the form of a basket with a lavish bouquet of flowers. The basket and the stems are made of high-carat yellow gold. The flowers are adorned with a lavish setting of gemstones. Fiery red rubies and deep green emeralds sparkle with white diamonds. The design is subject to a subtle, invigorating asymmetry. The bright color palette has the advantage that the brooch can be worn with a variety of dresses. Its size is not too obtrusive, but present enough to attract admiring glances. The brooch is in very good condition. We discovered it in Hanover.
