Toutes les enchères / Ethnographie / Collector's Grade Malachite & Chrysocolla Malachite with...

Decorative mineralogical入口 base in wood and brass — This lot features a sculpture of remarkable visual impact, carved from a solid block of malachite and chrysocolla from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The specimen has been skilfully polished and buffed to reveal its complex internal structure and vibrant polychromy, then mounted on an elegant dark wood and satin-brass bespoke base, transforming it into a natural art object. The organic, freeform shape of the mineral evokes an abstract landscape, where green and blue hues blend into a chromatic harmony of rare beauty. Up close, one is drawn to the glassy, reflective surface, which accentuates every minute detail. Malachite appears in its iconic shades of green, ranging from bright emerald tones to deeper, almost black hues, arranged in concentric and sinuous bands. These growth lines sketch the characteristic botryoidal patterns, reminiscent of “eyes” or waves, testifying to the slow, progressive deposition process of the mineral. Into this green tapestry lies chrysocolla, with its distinctive cyan-turquoise color, creating patches and veining of deep blue, offering a spectacular chromatic contrast. The workmanship respects the natural morphology of the mineral mass, resulting in a sculptural and fluid form. In some areas of the surface, tiny depressions or natural cavities (vugs) can be seen where crystallization is rougher, adding an element of three-dimensionality and authenticity to the piece. These minute natural imperfections, visible in detail photographs, are not defects but testimonies of the geological history of the specimen, recounting an environment rich in copper in which these two secondary minerals formed simultaneously. From a geological perspective, malachite (copper carbonate hydroxide) and chrysocolla (copper silicate hydroxide) are secondary minerals originating in oxidation zones of primary copper deposits. Their coexistence, as in this specimen, indicates a complex hydrothermal process wherein copper-rich fluids, carbon dioxide, and silica interacted with surrounding rocks. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is one of the most celebrated localities in the world for high-quality malachite mining, and this specimen represents an excellent aesthetic and scientific synthesis. This piece transcends its classification as a simple mineral to become a sophisticated design element and a collectible object. Its presence is ideal for enriching a contemporary Wunderkammer, a professional studio, a library, or an art gallery. The elegance of the stand underscores its display value, making it a focal point in any environment and a fascinating fragment of natural history to admire and study.”}}oops: Need to fix: There is
