Coarse pink-fluorescent calcite and red-fluorescent...

From our selection of collectible minerals we present a notable group of Calcite crystals from the Zanacchi quarry, Molassana, Val Bisagno, Genoa, Liguria. It is characterized by numerous well-formed crystals on matrix, white-pink in color and of generous size for the species, with pink fluorescence and red phosphorescence properties, which increase its aesthetic value and mineralogical importance. The specimen stands out for the quality of crystallization and for the overall aesthetic balance, with features that enhance its natural structure and visual impact. Calcite is the most widespread calcium carbonate in nature and owes its fluorescence and phosphorescence to traces of divalent manganese (Mn2+) that substitutes part of calcium in the crystal lattice, a phenomenon well documented in many Ligurian deposits linked to manganiferous mineralizations. The Val Bisagno area, inland from Genoa, is known among collectors for small quarries and outcrops that have yielded calcites of good aesthetic quality over time. Phosphorescence, rarer than simple fluorescence, indicates that energy absorbed under UV light is released gradually even after the light source is turned off. This is an ideal specimen for mineralogical collections, display, and for those who appreciate the natural beauty of minerals, also in the context of crystal therapy and lithotherapy, according to the properties traditionally associated with the mineral species. All minerals are 100% natural and untreated, with rare exceptions always indicated in the description. Photographs are taken with professional lighting to best enhance colors and details; however, slight tonal variations may occur depending on the device or ambient light.
