Clock and garniture set (3) - Marble, Brass - 1880-1920

Antique Art Nouveau Fireplace Triptych – "Baigneuse" Barbier Laon – Late 19th / Early 20th Century Description of the item: Splendid and elegant original Art Nouveau / Belle Époque fireplace triptych (garniture), dating to the end of the 19th century or the very early years of the 20th century (circa 1890-1910). The set consists of three coordinated pieces and is characterized by a refined combination of materials and styles typical of the great French manufacture of the era. Art features and details: Central clock: The base is made of precious red veined marble, enriched with feet and volute foliate decorations in gilded metal. The clock is topped by a magnificent and detailed figurative sculpture of a female in regulA (antimony) with a beautiful dark bronze patina. ATTENTION: the sculpture is missing one finger on the right hand as seen in the photo. The statue has been unscrewed from the marble base of the clock (as shown in the photo) to enable safe shipment, but the screw is present and just needs to be re-tightened. Side vases (Garnitures): Pair of matching vases resting on red marble bases with gilded feet, finely relief-decorated with floral motifs and flowing lines consistent with the Liberty style. Signatures and identifying details: The Sculpture: At the base of the statue there is the original contemporaneous metal plaque bearing the title of the work: "BAIGNEUSE" (The Bather), a famous allegorical subject linked to nature and water. The Dial: The enamelled ceramic dial is adorned with hand-painted flower garlands and bears the prestigious signature "BARBIER LAON", a historic dynasty of French clockmakers dating from the 19th century (the founder trained in Paris at the legendary Breguet house). Excellent structural and overall aesthetic condition. The marble is intact, as is the sculpture (apart from the missing finger) and the vases. Normal and fascinating signs of age on the metal patina that certify its authenticity. The clock is sold complete with the original pendulum and two keys. One key is used to wind the two barrels on the dial (time and chimes), while the smaller second key is used for micrometric adjustment of the time directly on the pendulum lens. Operation: At present the striking mechanism is active and the bell rings regularly, but I do not know for sure if it is functioning. If it does not operate, I will not accept returns as I am selling it as "not tested". The custom packaging for this type of very delicate item will be prepared with the utmost care and precision and is included in the lot price. Read my reviews for references.
