Claus Bertermann (1965) - Twin Palms

Artist: Claus Bertermann OFFICIAL WEBSITE: www.bertermann.art The story behind "Twin Palms" A pink terrace, a deep blue pool, palm trees and a little white house with a red roof. Two young women sit side by side on the yellow edge of the pool, barefoot, and look straight at you. One has crossed her arms and her legs, the other rests her hands on her knee. Same blue hair, same dark eyes, same calm. Nobody jumps in. Nobody needs to. "Twin Palms" was the name of a legendary mid-century house in Palm Springs, built in 1947 for Frank Sinatra and famous for its pool and its parties. Here, the party has been reduced to its essence: two friends, the water and the afternoon sun. The two women are the twin palms of the title, side by side, rooted and completely at ease in their own paradise. And the striped chair next to them is still free. It is waiting for you. About the artist Claus Bertermann holds a Master's degree in Architecture (TU Munich) and is an internationally collected contemporary artist, with more than 1,000 large-format works in private and institutional collections, including a monumental triptych at the Technical University of Munich. His abstract paintings have reached top auction results such as €18,900 at C. h. r. i. s. t. i. e´s Paris and €15,240 at S. o. t. h. e. b. y´s Cologne, with further sales at V. a. n. H. a. m, A. r. t. c. u. r. i. a. l and D. o. r. o. t. h. e. u. m. In 2026 he started a radically new figurative series: people and scenes in bold, emotional colour, inspired by German Expressionism. First he paints the background with loose, broad brushstrokes. Then he draws the figures on top with oil stick, in clear and confident lines. Visual description Two young women with blue hair sit on the yellow edge of an oval pool in deep ultramarine. On the left, a strapless dress in a burst of red, yellow and blue flowers; on the right, a bright orange dress. Behind them lie a pink terrace, palm trees, a white house with a red roof and a cluster of blue and orange blossoms; in front, a fresh green lawn and a pink-and-white striped chair, drawn in red oil stick. Signed in blue at the lower right. One detail for those who look twice: the two women share almost the same face. Only their poses tell them apart, one cool and composed with crossed arms, the other leaning forward, open and relaxed. Why it is worth the price A large, museum-scale painting from the first year of a radically new series. With its pool, its palms and its mid-century sunshine, "Twin Palms" brings the light of Palm Springs to any wall, plus a little wink for lovers of architecture and design. Joyful, bold and instantly understood, it works beautifully in a living room, a holiday home or a hotel lounge.
